In the early 1990s, Dennis Smith and Glenn Overton both worked in the sales
department of a North Carolina boat dealership. The two decided to team up and
start a dealership of their own--one that would deal exclusively in yacht sales.
Their undertaking, Cape Fear Yacht Sales, was opened in March 1996.
With locations in Wilmington, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC, as well as in Charleston,
S.C., Cape Fear Yacht Sales is one of the most successful yacht dealerships in
the Carolinas. "When we opened, it was just Glenn and myself for that first
year," says Smith. "Now, we have a staff of 30-plus people. Our sales have grown
from $11 million to last year's $14 million."
The Cruisers Yachts line is Cape Fear Yacht Sales' top product category. They
build from 28 feet up to 54 feet. "A few years ago, they built a new
manufacturing facility on the Cape Fear River, so they're built right here in
Wilmington." Cape Fear Yacht Sales also sells Carver Yachts, Marquis Yachts,
Four Winns boats, and Century boats.
Cape Fear Yacht Sales' personalized service doesn't end with our sales team,
which consists of four salespeople in Wilmington and one in Charleston. In
addition to ten people on our service staff, we have two mobile service vehicles
that drive all over North and South Carolina to service our product. Personal
attention and personal service define our approach. A strong focus on customer
service is key to building relationships with customers.
To emphasize this commitment, Cape Fear Yacht Sales hosts numerous customer
appreciation events, called Owner Rendezvous, each year. We lead trips to
beautiful and exciting places such as Ocracoke Island, Beaufort, NC, Bald Head
Island, New Bern, and even Charleston, SC.
